The SS242 climb into Val Gardena

After the motorway, the route becomes a winding mountain road with village sections and substantial elevation gain. Regional buses, deliveries and visitor traffic share this corridor. The Sella and Gardena passes are not part of the standard approach

The regular journey from Innsbruck reaches Selva from the north via Chiusa and the SS242 through Val Gardena. It does not need to cross the Sella Pass or Gardena Pass. These roads lie beyond Selva and may be restricted according to season, weather or traffic arrangements.

A closure of either Dolomite pass therefore does not automatically prevent the normal arrival through Ortisei and Santa Cristina.

Which railway station is suitable for Selva?

Selva has no railway station. Rail passengers travel from the Brenner direction to a suitable station in the Eisack Valley, such as Bressanone or Chiusa, and continue by regional bus, shuttle or taxi. The practical option depends on the current timetable and accommodation.

The journey from the airport first requires travel to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof. This may be economical for one passenger with limited luggage, while every change becomes more difficult with children or several ski bags.

Returning from Selva to Innsbruck Airport

The return journey begins on the SS242 through Santa Cristina and Ortisei before joining the A22 at Chiusa. Delays in the valley and on the Brenner corridor can accumulate. Pickup planning therefore includes the property location, winter weather, holiday traffic, the border area, airline check-in and airport security. A larger buffer is appropriate on changeover days.
