Route: Innsbruck Airport (INN) → Hochgurgl
From Innsbruck Airport to Hochgurgl
The journey begins at Innsbruck Airport and follows the Inn Valley west before turning south into Ötztal. The route continues past Oetz, Umhausen, Längenfeld and Sölden. Beyond Sölden, it passes through Zwieselstein and climbs into the Gurgler Tal.
In the Pill and Angern area, the route branches towards Hochgurgl and the Timmelsjochstraße. Your driver then continues uphill to the exact hotel or accommodation address entered during booking.
The transfer normally covers approximately 100 kilometres and takes around 90 minutes under suitable traffic and weather conditions. Traffic through the Inn Valley and Ötztal, snowfall, road maintenance, ski-holiday changeovers and the exact hotel location can increase the journey time.
Hochgurgl and Obergurgl are different destinations
Hochgurgl and Obergurgl share one tourism and ski region, but they are separate villages and transfer drop-off points. Hochgurgl is located at approximately 2,150 metres, almost 200 metres above Obergurgl. The two destinations share most of the route through Ötztal, but their final access roads and hotel locations differ.
Choose Hochgurgl when your accommodation address explicitly states Hochgurgl or Timmelsjochstraße. Choose Obergurgl when the property is located in Obergurgl village. If you are staying there, see our private transfer from Innsbruck Airport to Obergurgl.
Using the actual destination ensures the correct fixed price, journey time, final route and return pickup. Do not select Obergurgl only because a booking confirmation uses the combined resort name Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.
Why the exact hotel address matters
Hochgurgl is a compact high-altitude hotel settlement, but not every property uses the same entrance or final access. Hotels may be located within the main hotel area, along the Timmelsjochstraße, near the ski lifts or towards the Top Mountain Crosspoint.
Always provide the complete hotel name, street and house number, postcode and a reachable passenger telephone number. The full address helps the driver identify the correct access road, hotel entrance and return-pickup point. The Top Mountain Crosspoint should only be entered when it is your actual destination rather than being used as a general drop-off point for Hochgurgl.
Winter transfers and the final climb
Winter Saturdays and school-holiday changeover days are often the busiest periods. Delays may develop at the entrance to Ötztal, through Längenfeld and Sölden, beyond Zwieselstein or during the final climb to Hochgurgl. Traffic lower in the valley can affect the complete journey because vehicles travelling to Gurgl use the same main corridor.
Hochgurgl's elevation makes the final approach particularly sensitive to snowfall, reduced visibility and winter road maintenance. The mountain section includes additional climbing, bends and exposed road sections. These conditions do not normally prevent access, but they can require a more cautious driving speed. The normal journey time is therefore an estimate rather than a guaranteed arrival time.
The Timmelsjoch is not required
The regular airport transfer approaches Hochgurgl from the Austrian side through Innsbruck, Ötztal, Sölden and Zwieselstein. It does not cross the Timmelsjoch into Italy.
The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road beyond Hochgurgl has a long winter closure. This does not affect access from Innsbruck Airport: the Austrian approach through Ötztal remains the normal route. Do not use a winter navigation suggestion through Italy or across the pass when estimating your journey.
Pickup at Innsbruck Airport
After collecting your luggage, continue into the public arrivals hall. Your driver waits at the agreed meeting point with a sign displaying the passenger name entered during booking. We monitor the supplied flight number and adjust the airport pickup if the aircraft arrives later than scheduled.
Provide the correct flight number, scheduled arrival time, lead passenger name, reachable mobile number, passenger count, all luggage and sports equipment and the complete Hochgurgl hotel address. Contact AlpExpress if the flight is cancelled, diverted or replaced with a different flight number.
Skis, luggage and children
Declared skis and snowboards are transported without a separate equipment charge. The vehicle category still depends on the combined space required for passengers, suitcases, ski bags, snowboards, bicycles, pushchairs and other equipment. Include every item during booking so that a suitable vehicle can be assigned.
Baby seats, child seats and booster seats are available free of charge when requested in advance. Provide each child's age so that the appropriate seat can be prepared before pickup.
Summer transfers to Hochgurgl
Hochgurgl is also visited for hiking, mountain biking, road cycling and high-altitude excursions. Summer traffic follows a different pattern from winter changeover days but can still be affected by holiday weekends, roadworks, cyclists and seasonal Timmelsjoch traffic. The normal airport route through Ötztal remains the same whether or not the pass road is open.
Returning to Innsbruck Airport
The return journey requires cautious planning because delays can affect check-in and boarding. The pickup time should account for the hotel location, the descent from Hochgurgl, winter conditions beyond Zwieselstein, traffic through Sölden and Längenfeld, congestion in the lower Ötztal and airline check-in and security requirements.
Additional buffer time may be appropriate on winter Saturdays, during school holidays and heavy snowfall or for early flights. Enter the correct flight-departure time during booking. Your driver collects you from the accessible hotel entrance or another pickup point confirmed with the reservation.
