Travelling from Innsbruck Airport to Obergurgl

The journey follows the Inn Valley west from Innsbruck before turning south into Ötztal. It continues through the valley past Oetz, Umhausen, Längenfeld and Sölden before reaching Zwieselstein and climbing further towards Obergurgl.

After passing Sölden, the route continues through Zwieselstein before the final climb towards Obergurgl. This section is more mountainous than the earlier part of the journey and may require slower driving during snowfall or wintry road conditions. Winter transfer days

Winter traffic is strongly influenced by ski-holiday arrival and departure patterns. Saturdays can be particularly busy because many accommodation bookings begin and end on the same day.

Congestion may develop at the entrance to Ötztal, around village sections and junctions, through Sölden, during the final approach to Obergurgl or after heavy snowfall. Even when the road remains open, vehicles may need to travel more slowly. Delays accumulated earlier in the valley can also affect the arrival time in Obergurgl.

Travellers with equipment collection, hotel check-in or another appointment should therefore allow some flexibility.

Travelling during summer

Obergurgl is also visited during summer for hiking, cycling, mountain activities and travel through the upper Ötztal. Holiday weekends, roadworks, events and cycling activity can still affect the journey.
